3M Paint Preparation System (PPS) version 2.0

This consists of a reusable plastic cup with disposable liners and lids. When the turbine system is turned on, the plastic cup is pressurized, which forces the lines on the inside of the H/O cup to start to collapse. This pushes the finish in the liner into the spray gun no matter how it’s pointed — even upside down!

With the 3M PPS system, it’s easy to spray inside cabinets, spray up onto crown moldings, or even spray ceilings with the gun upside down.

Advantages of the PPS 2.0 System:

A key advantage of this closed system is that it enables the spray gun to function at any angle, even upside down!

Minimizes both preparation and cleanup time:

  • Eliminates the need for traditional mixing cups, with measurements and mixing ratios on the cups.

  • Includes full-diameter 200-micron filters to filter the finish as you spray. No need to strain fluid first.

  • The liner, lid and built-in filter are all disposable, leaving only the adapter and spray gun to be cleaned.

Minimizes waste:

  • Mix only the quantity of finish you need.

  • Big sealing plugs on the PPS 2.0 series lets you store cups upside down, keeping the filters wet.

  • Use less solvent to clean the guns.

  • Liners and lids can be used more than once. Some users report as many as 5-6 uses per liner.

Adds more spray cup sizes for gravity guns:

  • Increases the capacity of the Fuji Spray GXPC 9600 gravity gun to 28 ounces with the large PPS H/O cup.

  • The new 13.5-ounce liner fits the PPS Midi Cup for gravity-feed guns.

Note that when you buy PPS 2.0 HVLP kits from me, I’ve already adapted them to work with Fuji Spray guns, using a tool that makes it easier. So I’ve saved you some labor.

Note that the video above shows the older 3M PPS 1.0 version. The new PPS 2.0 system is different and requires adapters for HVLP spray guns.

Important Note: I sell the adapters that equip spray guns for PPS 2.0. These fit both hvlp turbine spray guns, and air compressor spray guns. The rest of the PPS 2.0 items sold here fit ONLY HVLP turbine spray guns, NOT the Fuji Spray Auto air compressor guns. Kits and refills for compressor guns are widely available elsewhere.

Pressure Pots — for spraying larger quantities

Assembling a 2.5 Gallon Pressure Pot Kit

Pressure pots are larger than the cups that mount on a spray gun, so when you have a large area to spray, you needn’t refill the coating so often (if at all).

The 2.5-gallon pressure pot (Fuji 2470) is so big you can simply set a gallon can inside it, without pouring the finish into the pot. Much less cleanup!

The 2-quart pressure pot (Fuji 5432) doubles the capacity of standard bottom-feed quart cups, ideal for medium to large jobs.

Pressure pots can also be used with an air compressor, if you don’t have an HVLP turbine.

Note: Two of the Fuji Spray Auto X-series reduced pressure air compressor spray guns work with pressure pots:

Micro-Mesh

I have used Micro-Mesh in the finishing process for over 20 years and am pleased to be a distributor of Micro-Mesh products. I include one free Micro-Mesh Soft Touch pad with each Fuji Spray system I sell, because I know the value it will give my customers.

Micro-Mesh has multiple uses in the finishing process. It can be used for rubbing out and polishing finishes — especially finishes notoriously hard to rub out such as acrylic or polyurethane. Micro-Mesh can also smooth out areas of over spray. A Micro-Mesh pad can be used either wet or dry. It can even be used over and over again, by washing the pad when it gets clogged with material.

Micro-Mesh is made with a flexible cloth backing, topped with a layer of specially formulated latex. Silicone carbide or aluminum oxide crystals are bonded with a flexible glue. When contact pressure is applied to the work piece, Micro-Mesh crystals recede and rotate slightly to present their sharp cutting edges evenly across the surface, cutting together on the same plane with positive results.

Micro-Surface developed this polishing technology so that a very fine scratch pattern is produced with a relatively large crystal. The result is longer lasting material that resists loading, reduces polishing time, removes very little of the preceding layer of coating, and produces the finest uniform scratch pattern with the most economical process.

Strainers for Finishes & Paints

Worthy Strainers

The Worthy Strainer fits on the bottom of the Spray Gun suction tube, so it is continually straining the finish as it is being sprayed. I have used Worthy Strainers (made by Worthy Mfg.) for over twenty years and would not spray a finish without one on my spray gun.

These strainers are much better than nylon strainers, if they’ll fit on your spray gun.

  • 50 x 60 Brass Mesh Sidewalls & Bottom

  • Over 5 Square Inches of Straining Area

  • All Joints Securely Clinched

  • Adjustable Poly Tube Gasket Grips Securely

Note: The Worthy strainers don’t work with the Fuji G-Xpc, GT-X2, or GTX spray guns.

Tip: The strainers tend to get clogged a bit more with paints and water-based finishes than with solvent-based clear finishes.

HVLP Hoses & Parts

The ultra flexible 6-foot whip hose is a prime accessory. It’s attached to the spray gun, then to the end of the regular 25-foot hose. It adds length plus great maneuverability.

HVLP Turbine Filters

Note that since turbine filters need periodic washing, it’s important to have at least one extra turbine filter (or pair of filters) on hand, to use while washed ones dry. When you buy a Fuji Spray system here, I add the extra as a bonus item without any shipping charge. Buying turbine filters (and other parts) separately will incur a shipping charge.
